The 2010 MLB schedule is out for all 30 clubs. The 2010 MLB schedule also appears to be driving up interest in the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox rivalry as not only will they start out the season playing each other, they are also going to end the season playing each other. In between all of that, there is the chance to possibly see Stephen Stasburg pitch for the Washington Nationals, the Philadelphia Phillies defend their back-to-back world championships (yes, we are announcing here that Philadelphia is going to win the 2009 World Series), and even an outdoor game for the Minnesota Twins. Now we have to actually decide if we care about the Yankees and Red Sox rivalry anymore.
For people who are fans of the Yankees or Red Sox, the revelation that they will open and close the 2010 MLB season against each other might be exciting. For the rest of us in the baseball world, it just provides another tiring opportunity for SportsCenter and everyone else at ESPN to bore us to death with statistics about the two teams playing head to head. Maybe if ESPN wasn’t located in the New England area they would care less about the Red Sox and their opponents, but for those of us who live on the West Coast (or in the south, or in Middle America) we really have stopped caring about the Yankees and Red Sox making every headline on SportsCenter. Maybe they should branch out their home offices a bit to give more coverage to some of the other teams that the American League has to offer.
